Matilda, is a commentary on the mind/body divide. The work is both a performance and film document. Matilda takes influences from Donna Haraway’s A Cyborg Manifesto. During the work, I spent two hours suspended on a gallery wall inside of a riveted steel metal robotic sculpture, which I built, narrating to the audience. Occasionally, my limbs would lean out of the structure via slits in the metal. I adopted the role of a dark cyber-chat show host spirit. When inside I had the sensation at the PV event as though I was dead. My voice was altered via an effects pedal amongst other synthetic alterations in an attempt to create a gender-neutral voice.
